Skipton developer wins award for residential conversion of former Settle Police Station

SKIPTON based developer Candelisa has won a prestigious building industry award for its residential conversion of the former Settle police station.

Candelisa received the award for ‘best change of use of an existing building or conversion’ at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Yorkshire Building Excellence Awards for its Cragdale Lodge development in a central, conservation area of the town.

The grade two listed former police station and court room dates back to 1830 and was originally built as a private residence before becoming a police station and court.

Candelisa converted the building into apartments, while keeping many original features.

Guy Taylor, Candelisa’s managing director, said: “The internal design of Cragdale Lodge is exciting and unconventional but remains sympathetic to the building’s colourful past. As a company our philosophy is about providing exceptional spaces in exceptional places through the imaginative regeneration of existing buildings so it is a source of great pride that the quality of our work has been acknowledged by the winning of this award.”

Candelisa was also highly commended for its redevelopment of Sutton Gate Lodge, a former nursing home in Sutton-in-Craven, into luxury apartments.

The LABC awards recognise the best in quality, standards, technical innovations and sustainable designs at a local level. They also take into account the working relationship between the developer and contractors and local authority building control.
